Psychomotor delay

His story

Victor lives with his mom and his older sister. He had a twin, but unfortunately, he passed away two days after birth. The dad being absent, the family lives with the grandmother in Tsévié. Victor’s mom is a teacher in biology, but she hasn’t been able to find work. When we first met them, she was paying for food on credit and struggled to pay it back. Victor does not yet master the sitting position. He suffers from a great psychomotor delay and the tonicity of his lower limbs is limited. We are now helping them through medical care. We also financed the start of a business for his mom, in order to help her become financially independent.

Project and main actions

  • Medical care.
  • Monthly food supplies, followed by the founding of a business for his mom, in order to help her become financially independent.

December 9th, 2021

Victor is doing very well since we adjusted his antibiotics for his recurring abscesses. However, he is gaining little weight. He is still in a state of severe malnutrition. We gave his mom enriched cereals to add to his porridge. His sister Gifty also had a big abscess on her eye which we treated.

December 5th, 2021

Victor was back at the center with multiple abscesses on his skull. The result of the exams showed the presence of a staphylococcus aureus in his blood. He benefited from five days of intravenous antibiotic therapy which we gave him every morning at the center, as well as a follow-up antibiotic syrup. We also financed new physiotherapy sessions in order to help him improve his head posture and so that he can learn to sit up.

Victor is doing much better. His wound is now completely healed, and he has just finished his physiotherapy sessions, which we will be renewing next week.

October 15th, 2021

Our little Victor is doing well and making good progress thanks to the physical therapy sessions. We recently helped his mom to start a small business of selling corn and beans, which has started very well! Since August, we had been supporting them through a food supply. We decided to develop the project of a business, in order to help Victor’s mom become independent in providing for her family.

October 7th, 2021

Victor, now 18 months old, weighs 7.25 kg. His weight has finally taken off, and he has gained 400 grams since the last weighing! He continues to take enriched porridge and the business that we financed for his mom is working very well.

September 3rd, 2021

We took Victor to the pediatrician, in order to assess his psychomotor delay. The doctor thinks that this is linked to the delivery and has prescribed physiotherapy sessions, which we will be financing. We have also started his monthly food supply and gave him an anti-anemic.
