His story

Alphonse lives with his mom and his grandparents. His parents are still in high school. Given his state of undernutrition and his prominent and swollen belly, a family member brought them to the polyclinic of Tsévié where they were received by our midwife, Brigitte. They performed an ultrasound, and he was urgently referred to our center. The results revealed a pyloric stenosis. Pyloric stenosis is a thickening of the pyloric muscle, the muscle between the stomach and the duodenum. This thickening becomes an obstacle to the draining of the stomach and therefore causes vomiting. As a result, Alphonse could no longer eat, and he required emergency surgery.

Updates

August 27th, 2022

We referred Alphonse urgently to the pediatric surgery department at the Hospital of Lomé. Joined by our coordinators, he quickly underwent surgery. We financed this operation and all the necessary treatments. He received a blood transfusion, but the control ultrasound is not yet satisfactory. We are waiting to hear from the surgeon in the next few days to know the next steps in his care. In the meantime, he remains in the pediatric surgery department, together with his grandmother, and he is fed with a nasogastric tube.
